Artist Statement
As a kid I collected images and stories at a voracious rate. Now as a full grown human adult I use my work as a way of sorting out and documenting the visual impressions of the things I’ve collected. Primarily I am an oil painter. Though I work in a variety of mediums, it is the malleability and building of a painting that I am highly energetic about. In my process of building an image I begin with some form of visual excitement that is evolved out of dream experiences and moments of recollected memory. From this a conversation, or sometimes an argument, between the visual experience and visceral quality of the material persuades an image that is neither abstract nor representational, but is informational. The growth in each piece is continually a surprise and often diverges from a very introspective view, to a much broader statement on visual cultural inheritance.
